Why Willis Raburu is yet to receive Sh6.5 million won in a copyright suit

Image
Media personality Willis Raburu is yet to receive the Sh6.5 million he was awarded by a magistrate court last year in a copyright infringement case he filed against telecom giant Airtel Kenya. On June 24, 2022, the former Citizen TV presenter-turned-event promoter successfully sued Airtel Kenya for using his trademark 'Bazu' to promote its new bundle plan 'Bazu Bundle'. He claimed that the public assumed that he had endorsed Airtel because they used the name BAZU in their business dealings, which wasn't the case. Therefore, it affected his business by confusing consumers and the general public. In its defense, Airtel Kenya argued that Raburu was only aiming for a quick enrichment filing the suit as it had no basis. But Magistrate Rawlings Lilum Musiega said in his ruling that Raburu, as the registered owner of the trademark, was entitled to its exclusive use. "I find and hold that the plaintiff herein has proved that the defendant is liable for infringement an...

Why Christina Shusho is open for a collabo with Diamond and Harmonize

Image
Tanzanian gospel singer Christina Shusho has lost count of the times she has visited Kenya in recent years. She is on record as saying that the love she has received from Kenyans is so surreal and real. Not once or twice has she been trending on Kenyan X (formerly Twitter), albeit for good reasons. While at home most days she wakes up to negative news about her troubled marriage to her estranged pastor husband, in Kenya it's quite the opposite. Her demand in Kenya has seen the 'Shusha Nyavu' hitmaker perform several concerts in the country over the past few years, the latest of which took place three weeks ago in Nairobi. Last year, she released a song 'Zakayo' (one of President William Ruto's branded nicknames by Kenyans) that literally 'united' Kenyans on social media. One of the things I love so much about Kenyans is their ability to quickly recognize someone's potential, embrace it wholeheartedly, and support them without a doubt. But for Ta...

Kahiga said in a YouTube interview with Kogi's Corner. The father of three celebrated his 65th birthday last Wednesday. With his last born turning 23, the politician claims he is now an older man who should be looking for romantic escapades. "I am a realist. English Urban comedians to watch in 2025

Image
Nairobi's comedy scene came alive in May when celebrated American stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle while on transit to Rwanda, out of the blues, announced he would host a random show in Nairobi. The sudden show announced less than 48 hours before D-Day, caught many Kenyans by surprise. Many expressed regret at being unable to attend the comedic icon's maiden performance due to the abrupt ticketing. Despite the tickets being priced at Sh7,000, they were sold out in just two hours, filling the 303 capacity of Louis Leaky Auditorium. The conversations that followed Dave Chappelle's event highlighted the growth of Nairobi's English Urban comedy scene since 2018. That night also offered a platform to several fast-rising and perhaps little-known English urban comedians who got the nod to curtain raise for the American legend. Going into 2025, we look at some of the relatively unpopular Ubran English comedians who have been outstanding this year and show great potential for t...
